Windsor Basement Remodel

This basement remodel was meticulously designed to transform the space into a warm and inviting multi-generational living area for a young couple as they embark on the transformative journey of starting their family. Alongside the couple, the husband’s mother will move in as a live-in nanny, enriching the household dynamic with her experience and support.

Relocating from Florida, the family found their ideal home in South Asheville. The house was an early 90’s colonial revival home in a great neighborhood. This home had charm and modern comfort, but needed additional living space and functionality for a growing family.

The remodel required the installation of an interior waterproofing system designed to channel moisture to a foundation drain that would daylight outside. Given the landscape and exterior configuration, the interior drain was the only feasible option, and that was the first step in the renovation of this home.

With the couple’s aspirations in mind, this renovation features a full kitchen, a laundry room, a bathroom, a walk-in closet, a bedroom, walk-in storage, and a welcoming living room. In addition, there’s a charming “Harry Potter” closet tucked under the stairs, which serves as a delightful play area and reading nook for her grandchild.

In addition to the basement, the entire home underwent a comprehensive upgrade featuring sleek, modern black windows throughout. The challenge of integrating these windows into the existing architecture sparked a creative opportunity; we commissioned deep window sills crafted from the same exquisite granite as the kitchen countertops. This thoughtful detail established a visual harmony throughout the home.

In our design process, we prioritized built-in solutions wherever feasible, enhancing functionality while offering innovative storage options, all without sacrificing a clean and streamlined aesthetic. A notable feature is our elegant integration of stylish lighting into the HVAC ductwork, which subtly descends below the ceiling. This thoughtful design not only illuminates the space but also adds an artistic flair, merging practicality with visual appeal.

The transformed space is truly stunning! Remodeling a basement presents its share of challenges, but we embraced each one as a chance for creativity.
