Our clients bought this second home as a mountain retreat situated on Town Mountain above Asheville overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. The original design had the master bedroom and bathroom situated at the southeastern corner overlooking the street and the clients wanted to take advantage of the expansive views to the west. There were few existing windows and adding new ones meant lots of afternoon sun and breathtaking views. They wanted an open floor plan which led us to integrating the master bedroom with the master bathroom having no walls to separate the two rooms.
In addition, they wanted a bigger walk-in closet and a “hidden” door that connected the new master bedroom to the old master bedroom. After some creative planning, the new master bedroom connects seamlessly not only to the Blue Ridge Mountains but also the master bathroom.
The bathroom has custom built features utilizing reclaimed white oak for a floating vanity, linen shelves, and a custom barn door. The heated wide plank flooring transitions to a European inspired wet room with a walk in shower and a soaker tub situated in a cantilevered alcove with windows on three sides.
Automatic blinds on all windows for total control of natural daylighting with the touch of a button.
Heated wide plank engineered flooring.
The “hidden” door connects the original master bedroom complete with a beautiful fireplace and unique vaulted ceiling clad in reclaimed redwood. The material is tongue and groove repurposed from old buildings in the San Francisco bay area. The wood patina texture is illuminated by LED cove lighting built into the base of the vault. The result is breathtaking!
