Sluder Valley
This mountainside home overlooks the valley where the family runs two businesses. The farm business grows crops for a CSA and farm stand and the event business has a farm themed venue that hosts weddings and other gatherings in beautiful Leicester, NC.
The main level features a master bedroom and a music room with an open concept kitchen, living and dining room. The earth tone terracotta colored walls blended with rough sawn white pine rafters set the tone for this house. Saltillo floor tile combined with handmade turquoise wall tiles create the southwestern rustic/vintage vibe that the client was seeking.
Their home tells the story of family history through the use of vintage light fixtures from their childhood homes as well as an upcycled vanity that was made by the father and daughter using a mahogany dresser and remnant marble counter top. The kitchen features simple yet elegant Cherry wood cabinetry and Red Oak shelves and range hood that tie into the beautiful and rustic hardwood floors.
The lower level of this empty nester home features an open space intended to be an art studio that will eventually have a pool table and darts for entertaining. The studio is connected to a separate bike room with additional outdoor gear storage. There is also a guest bedroom and bathroom as well as a large utility/laundry room. The lower level features a covered porch that connects to the immediate yard and a footpath that leads to the family farm.
As with all new homes that we build, this home is built to the Energy Star standard and features a tight building envelope with water sense certified fixtures, LED lighting, no/low VOC paint, a heat pump hot water heater and mostly electric appliances with the exception of a gas range and a wood stove. These were intentional details that fulfilled the clients desire to be able to cook and provide heat in case of a power outage.
The exterior color scheme has a cheerful Tansy green body color, Navajo white trim and Fire Roasted red doors with dark bronze windows for contrast. True to the client’s style, the parking pad concrete is tinted a terracotta color to blend with the local clay soils.
