Boyd Hill
This Boyd Hill home was built for a couple who had raised their children and were making a lifestyle change by moving to the country to start a hobby homestead. Their property consists of three acres including a European inspired swimming pond, a kitchen garden, an art studio and a barn all overlooking beautiful long range views of the mountains in Leicester, NC.
Our clients were looking for an open floor concept home under 2000 square feet that wasn’t going to break the bank.
This home was designed for aging in place with the primary living on the main level. The main level features a master bedroom, second bedroom, a primary bath and a guest bathroom that connects to the open concept living, dining and kitchen. The covered porch and grilling deck conveniently connects to the kitchen and dining room for great outdoor entertaining and dining. The main bathroom has a curbless shower for easy access and aging in place design.
The basement is split front to back with a guest bedroom, central sitting area and a full guest bathroom all overlooking the mountains in the distance. The front half of the basement has a large conditioned space that is dedicated as storage and a sewing room.
Our clients have a cheerful color scheme including lilac, baby blue and green walls contrasted by the natural beauty of the red oak hardwood floors. The high ceilings create the feeling of spaciousness and the windows bring in lots of natural light creating a great connection to the outdoors. The kitchen cabinets are a charcoal stained maple with variegated color granite counters. The island features a counter height bar top for three and a deep single bowl sink for prep. We used an air switch for the island pendants instead of a traditional toggle switch and a touch faucet keeping the cook in mind.
This high performance home has a conditioned crawl space that houses a hybrid heat pump hot water heater and a Bosch variable speed heat pump HVAC system creating a perfect space for additional conditioned storage. The entire home uses water sense certified plumbing fixtures, all LED light fixtures, all electric appliances, low and no VOC paint and domestic hardwood floors. The exterior features composite windows and long lasting Trex composite decking. Both of these composites utilize recycled plastic and wood in addition to other raw materials creating a durable, sustainable product.
